Hybrid cycloolefin ligands for palladium–olefin cooperative catalysis

The engineering of molecular catalysts in homogeneous catalysis enables new catalytic modes, which leads to efficient synthetic transformations. In this regard, the design ligands for transition metal has played a major role. catalysed reactions, olefins can serve as steering by tuning electronic and steric nature centre. Here we report unstrained olefin that bear P or S coordination site use Pd-catalysed Catellani reaction. This ligand shows covalent function an ipso,ortho-difunctionalization iodoarenes. Mechanistic analysis reveals reversible bonding between substrate cycloolefin unit ligand, forms key organopalladium intermediates enable reactivity. Our results demonstrate concept employs hybrid module, opens up possibilities further cooperative with other metal–olefin hybrids. Taking inspiration from palladium–norbornene catalysis, Catellani-type reactions are now performed using site. studies show formation comprise both ligand.
